| Traces of insecticide have been found inside a can of coffee from a Tokyo vending machine, government officials said.
The Health, Labor and Welfare Ministry announced that propoxur, an insecticide ingredient, was found in a can of Aromax Latte Italiano, a coffee drink produced by Pokka Corp.
An unidentified consumer who bought the drink from a vending machine in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, on April 25, subsequently complained of illness.
The drink was produced at Pokka's factory in Gunma Prefecture. Prefectural government officials who inspected the factory said they found no sign that the drink was contaminated during the manufacturing process.
Propoxur is widely used in household insecticides. If ingested, it causes nausea and diarrhea.
